The FAQ

Do you Travel?

I currently photograph in northern Virginia only. If you are outside of NoVa, please inquire about my availability to travel to your location, and pricing.

How do we get our photos?

Following our photo session, I will provide you with a link to access your edited gallery. You will be able to download them (high resolution and/or web resolution) straight from the gallery.

Do you retouch photos?

I only do light re-touching (blemishes, background distractions, etc.).

What is your turn around time?

Generally about 2 weeks.

How do we book you?

It's super easy! Just send a request from here (see the Contact page). We'll then connect, discuss package options, and set a date for your fun photo session. You'll be officially booked, once you sign my contract and pay a 50% non-refundable retainer fee. The retainer fee will be applied to the total cost of the shoot, with the remainder due at least 2 days prior to the shoot.

Can you help us with planning?

Yes! I am only a call or text message away. If you are having any doubts or concerns about the photo session, reach out to me! I am here for you and want you / your family to be as comfortable as possible. I am happy to help with outfit ideas, location, desired shots, etc.

How far out do you book?

For portrait sessions, I recommend reaching out 4-6 weeks in advance, if possible.

October-November are my busiest months so it's never too early to book your fall session!

What should we do for an engagement session?

Bring your lovely, in-love selves (and the ring, of course)! I can't wait to capture your love story!!

What should we wear?

I always recommend wearing your Sunday's best. (Please take my word on this because I guarantee you will not LOVE your photos if you are wearing flip-flops and cargo shorts (guys) or leggings / sweats (ladies). It's also SUPER important to wear something you feel comfortable in. If you are not comfortable - it will show!

For family sessions, I recommend picking a couple common accent colors (light-colored / muted tones work best), with the remaining colors being neutral. Note: Not everyone in the group needs to wear one of the accent colors for it to look cohesive, as long as that person is dressed in neutrals.

In general, I prefer solid colors over prints (sometimes prints can distract from the main subject). If you do want to wear a print, avoid prints that are dark against light, and stripes that are thin / close together.

I also recommend layering clothing (just be careful not to add too much bulk), and having a mix of different textures.

If the weather allows for it, dresses and/or skirts are GREAT options, as it gives you something to do with your hand (lightly hold it, swish it, twirl, etc.), and it creates beautiful 'movement' in photos.

I'm a big believer that we should all love the skin we are in. That said, I also know that many of us tend to be our own worst critics. For that reason, I'll note that sports jackets and shapewear really help to flatter any and all body types.

If you have any doubts, send me pics of your options and I'll gladly provide my suggestions.

Where Do You Shoot Your Sessions?

I love to shoot in open fields / parks - but they have to be parks with beautiful backdrops around sunset time, and they must provide open shade as well. My all-time favorite park is located in Loudoun County, but I am open to suggestions as well. I'm always looking for new fun locations with nice backdrops. If you have a location in mind, I will scout the area ahead of time to determine if it will work well for the shoot.

What Is The Best Time For a Shoot?

The ideal time for outdoor photo sessions is generally about 1-1.5 hours before sunset. Period. (Believe me on this!)

For indoor newborn lifestyle sessions, the ideal time is in the morning (as long as your home has good natural light at that time).

Will I be able to print and/or post the images online?

Absolutely! Upon reserving your session, I will send a Print License Agreement. Once that is fully executed, and you've received your gallery, you will be free to print and/or post the images (unaltered) for personal purposes.

Do you Post Photos from the Session on Your Website and other Social Media?

YES! I love to show off my beautiful clients! (All the more reason to wear your Sunday's best, right?!!) I may not post photos from the session if the color scheme / attire does not match the overall cohesive look I am going for (but it doesn't mean I love you any less!).

Posting photos online helps me to market and grow my business. However, if you specifically ask that I not release images to the public (i.e. do not sign the model release agreement), I will certainly respect your wishes!
